Ctale came to visit today with Miss S.. It was so nice to see them.. I can't wait for our girls to play together.. Miss S is such a cutie! Here's a few pics of the kiddo's..
Here's Miss S smiling big for the camera.. check out those cheeks!!

There's my drama queen on the left.. and little miss mellow on the right... and Miss S wondering what the hell all that fussing is about!

If you look closely, I think the twin on the right is actually flipping me off!

How happy does Miss S look being with my handsome boys?? ;)

Crying it out..

The girls have decided that they are not, ever, going to just go to bed, without a fit of crying.. I can hear them right now, at least one of them.. and she is not giving up.. I hate this! We have been doing this now for over 2 months, and it is not working! Why can't they just lay down in their cribs, understand that it's bed time, and leave it at that? Why must they torture us with their horrible cries? I should say torture me, because my husband thinks if they are going to be fussy and crying, they might as well be in their cribs doing it.. ugh.. poor little babies..

F@#%ing Idiot..

Someone please remind me why our youth does such stupid things? Take for instance my nephew.. He's been living in our basement now since December, when he could no longer afford to live on his own. Since then, he's gotten his old job back, at the fancy restaurant, doing part time pastry chef, and part time bar back. It's good money.. He now can do things that he couldn't before. He's been paying his rent on time for the past 2 months, recently had a pioneer cd player installed in his car, and spent countless money on other incidentals. So, today I find out that he's purchased a motorcycle! And he didn't save up his money, since he's making so much of it, instead he went out and got another loan, all by himself this time, and has it parked at my sisters house up north.
He told me that he wanted to get one a few weeks ago. I told him my thoughts, I didn't think it would be a wise decision to get another loan (this will make the third one he'll be paying on) and if he really wanted one, he should save his money and buy it outright. Not to mention the fact that he's 20 years old, living in my basement and he already has a vehicle! I could see if he needed transportation, and this was an inexpensive way of getting one, but this is a toy.. he's got absolutely no need for it..Of course I also told him that they're dangerous, blah blah, oh, and that we didn't have room for him to park it at our house. He said my sister had already told him that he could park it at her house.. (btw, she DID not tell him that as I found out today) I also told him that he was an adult, and could do as he wants.. but shit, I didn't think he'd really get it!
The ironic thing is that just as I was being told by my sister this morning that he was the proud owner of death on wheels, the student loan department called looking for him because he hadn't paid his bill yet.. he's on his own with this one.. we're all just hoping that when he goes for his license, he won't pass.. hate to have no faith in the kid, but wtf?

Rock on you old fogies..

My husband and his band actually have a gig! They don't even have a name yet, and they only have 3 songs, but it's not until July so they time to get their shit together.. I wish people who knew him could have seen the smile on his face when he got the news.. it was pretty cute how excited he was about it.. So, I'm hoping that a lot of people show up, and that they don't suck! I don't think I mentioned this, but obviously they found a singer.. who happens to be an ex-boyfriend of mine..the one I dumped when I met my future husband!! Ahh... such a small small world.. and kind of creepy if you ask me!

Duh..

Never open an email from your perverted brother in law titled "Camel Toe" when your 3 year old is sitting right next to you. He's going to get an early talk about "boobies" and paginas!

Sisters..

I am soooo screwed! Here's one of the babies just about crawling.. the days of them sitting quietly on the floor are numbered.. oh well, I'm very proud of them anyway, even if it means I'll be chasing them all over the place..

My husband was out of school today due to the flooding. He's hardly worked this week, and I think he's getting a bit tired of being home with the wife and kiddo's.. poor schmuck!
My youngest son is having his first speech therapy appointment tomorrow, from the comfort of our own home.. It's going to be interesting to see how she is going to keep his attention for an hour. I'm hoping the girls will nap, and things can be rather calm.. but I doubt it! It's a hell of a lot easier than having to pack everyone into the car and go somewhere, so I'll just suck it up, clean my house, and hope it all goes well.
We finally got some teeth in.. well, one of the babies did.. she got two this morning.. she's been a bit cranky, and I've been loading her up with tylenol, but I think we're in the clear with her for a while.. Now it's on to her sister. She's been the mild mannered one lately, but that's all going to change as her teeth rupture up through her little gums.. 4o teeth! That's what I'm going to look forward to! ugh..
Anyway, I'm hoping that the rain stops, and my husband can get back to work.. it's going to be a long week otherwise.. he's home on vacation all of next week.. yee ha!

Max and Screwby..

My son is watching this as I type.. It's about 2 bunnies, who seem to live by themselves. Occasionally their grandmother pops in, but for the most part it's about this 7 year old bunny named Ruby (or Screwby as I like to call her cause this dumb bunny is really getting screwed!), taking care of her mischievous little brother Max who is 2.

I don't know what it is about this show, but it drives me insane, and makes me wish my kids were still into Barney!

Max is a punk.. of course he's only 2, and has no real parental supervision.. but most 2 year olds can be a bit of a handful anyway.. But this poor little girl, who just wants to be a kid, is always interrupting what little joy she has to give Max a bath, or make his breakfast, or put him to bed.. If I was Ruby, I'd want to know when my parents were coming back, and why child protective services hasn't come to save me by now??
I don't know why I care.. man do I need to get out!

I had my final meeting today with the special ed team at our school. It went really well. I have to say, I absolutely love the people there. They have been so accommodating, and even though it's been a lengthy process, the outcome is what's important. Starting next week, until the end of the school year, they are going to do speech therapy with him once a week, with a therapist that I really like. Then starting in July, they are going to do speech 4 times a week, and the therapist is going to come to my house!

Starting in the fall, they have enrolled him into a very good pre school just down the street from me, and will continue with the speech therapy, once a week, unless they think he requires more. The best part is, they pay for it! The school he'll be attending was one that I had inquired about for my oldest son, but couldn't afford. This is going to be so good for him! This totally makes me not want to move.. but whatever happens, he'll have his IEP, so we can just start over somewhere else.. doesn't that sound fun! Whatever.. the important thing is that all the testing is over.. all the meetings are done, and finally, he's going to get the help he so desperately needs! Yee-ha!!

Carol Brady called, and she wants her hair doo back!!

Here is my little niece.. what a cutie pie she is! Her hair has taken on the 70's fashioning of a young Carol Brady.. the wispy mullet.. A little while ago, she had what I called the "Frank Barone" from Everybody Loves Raymond.. hardly any hair, especially right above her ears.. Anyway, she's gorgeous, and is going to make such a great big sister to her twin babies!

We found the house we want to buy today.. in Madbury.. It's totally 70's, the people who live there chain smoke, and have made the walls a dirty gray. The carpet is totally outdated, probably original. It needs a total makeover, but it has square footage, an in law apartment, and plenty of room.. So, now we have to think, and think and think.. and of course sell our house.. I'm really excited about the prospect of living in Madbury, as the schools are really good..not to mention I'd be a lot closer to my sister.. and her new twins on the way!!! I'm also a bit nervous of having to do so much work.. but the price is right, and that is basically what it comes down to..
We have had two showings here in the past two days.. haven't heard back on either of them yet.. but maybe we'll get into a bidding war.. (yea right!) But at least people are interested.. and damn, my house is clean!!

Living in Kazakhstan..

I made the mistake of suggesting to my husband last weekend that we should rent Borat. My mistake wasn't watching the movie, I loved it! My mistake was not realizing that my husband was going to spend this entire week doing his best Borat impressions, non stop! It's funny, but like most things in life.. it's getting OLD!
BTW, my husband bares a striking resemblance to Borat.. especially in this photo!

Holy Shit Part Duex..

Anyone who has read my blog, may or may not remember my post when I revealed that I was pregnant with twins.. Fittingly titled "Holy Shit"
Well, here's the conclusion to that.. the sequel..
My twin sister is pregnant!! yea! Very exciting.. I can't wait for her to have another baby! She found out a couple of weeks ago, and had been sitting on the news until she had her first doctor's appointment, and got to see the heartbeat. I've been giving her endless shit, for quite a while, that she was going to have twins too, and live the same sleepless nightmare as me! Haha.. Well, last Friday, she had her first ultrasound.. with the same o.b. who delivered my girls.. and lo and behold.. two babies!! Although there was some skepticism on the dr's part because she could only see one heart beat. She had my sister come back yesterday and do another ultrasound to confirm that in fact there were two babies in there!
The ultrasound determined that there were two, and they are identical!! I am so excited for her to be having twins.. None of our friends know.. not yet! But she's given me the great honor of posting this for them to see!! Holy shit huh??

To the where??

I was watching the Today Show this morning, and they had on Beyonce. I don't know the name of the song she was singing, since I'm too old to be a fan of hers.. but the catchy chorus was "to the left, to the left" And she kept moving her hand to the right.. to the right.. And I kept thinking, wtf, wtf?? does she know her left from her right? Good lord.. someone get that girl a tutor!

April Fool..

My poor poor husband.. when will he learn?? 2 years ago, on April Fool's Day (before we had 4 children) I told him that I was pregnant, and even provided him with a positive pregnancy test. (I'm a bit of a pack rat and have all my positive tests) Anyway, I didn't let it go too long, as long as I could not laugh, and let him in on the joke.. Haha..
Well, I thought the days of fooling him like that were long gone, especially since after the girls were born, we cut off any chance of me getting pregnant again (if you catch my tubaligation drift) Anyhoo, being in desperate need of a laugh lately (with most of my kids ill) I decided to try it again.. So, this morning, I told him that I thought I was pregnant, that I just felt like it..yada yada.. And much to my surprise, he's buying it! I figured for sure he wouldn't fall for it again, and it is the first of April.. Poor guy, I guess that's what happens when you prey on someones biggest fear.. So, I told him I was going upstairs to take the test.. and he's freaking out! I can hardly keep a straight face! I come downstairs 3 minutes later (hehe) and I'm pretending to be all sniffly, and say "it's a good thing we're moving" And show him the positive pregnancy test, to which he just throws his head back, and walks away.. But that was it. I didn't let him go any longer, mainly because I couldn't keep from laughing..
And so he fell for it again.. My husband is a bit of a prankster, so to get him like that feels oh so good! It felt even better when I saw the relief come over his face. In an instant I had given him his life back, a life that he might not always be thankful for.. but this morning, I think he might have been, just a little..

Here's Something SUCKY...

Getting up at the ass crack of dawn after a sleepless night with two sick babies, to clean.. get everyone ready and out of the house to show it.. and then have the douche bag that requested to see it over sleep and miss the appointment... Grrr..

Friday, March 30, 2007

Finally!

We have our first showing tomorrow!! Yea! I'm not expecting to sell it at the first showing, but at least someone has sparked some interest!! All that cleaning will need to be touched up..and with two kids sick today it could be tricky.. and of course my mom is actually busy (what?? NOW she's got a life??) well, good for her.. Friday nights are perfect for a couple drinks, some comet, some windex.. It'll be spotless come tomorrow morning! It's all good!

Monday, March 26, 2007

OK, who misses pictures of the babies??

I haven't posted any pictures of the girls recently.. so here's a couple.. I coudn't leave out the boys either.. Here they are giving their sister's some love..

Noll, null, cero, latasi, reido, nolla, zero....

The number of people that showed up for our open house... in seven different languages.. FAHHHHHKKKKK!!!!!!!!!

Poor Poor Jesse..

I put a picture of Jesse Metcalf on my blog a while ago (something about him being in a dream of mine..) Anyway, since I did that, I get a bunch of hits to my blog from people googling his picture.. Well, ever since he entered rehab, that number has doubled! Poor Jesse.. Perhaps the expiration of his gig on Desperate Housewives has thrown him into the arms of the ever soothing, brain numbing, problem solving alcohol.. Another celebrity biting the detox dust.. Ahh.. so sad..

Come and look at my house.. I'm begging you..

I spoke with our realtor today.. "Don't be disappointed if no one shows up tomorrow to the open house.."
Um, how could I not be disappointed?? I have spent every breathing moment this week getting ready for it! It's been a huge undertaking! And I know.. "at least my house is clean.." But that's not the point!
We're going to see a house on Sunday, that I really really like.. it's going to be a bummer if not one person shows up to look at my house.. ugh...

IEP

I met with the special ed. team at my son's school today to go over the results of the evaluation my younger son had there.. He did great in the occupational therapy piece, which I thought he would. However, the speech therapist said his speech was in the 1st percentile.. meaning that 99% of children his age, speak better than him! I wasn't too shocked by this considering how little I understand him, and that he's almost 4.
They have decided to do an Individual Educational Plan (or IEP) for him. Most likely, they will get him speech therapy during the summer, and into pre school this fall. I meet with them again in April. I'm happy that this is finally being resolved.. now I'm freaking out because we just put our house on the market, and this school system has one of the best group of therapists around.. ugh.. a part of me wants to run outside and kick down the for sale sign.. but I also know he can get help elsewhere, as long as I'm constantly fighting for him..
Anyway, in other news.. we have yet to catch a leprechaun! If you can believe that.. and we've been setting that trap every night! My mother has been over my house everyday this week helping me get ready for our first open house.. this Saturday. Lots to clean.. lots to organize! It sucks.. and it's going to suck even more if no one shows up! And I know.. at least my house will be clean in case anyone wants to see it..but it's going to be sooooo hard keeping it clean with 4 kids!

The Leprechaun Trap..

Last week my son had a project to do for school. He had to make a leprechaun trap. I guess it's a big tradition at the school that the kids build a trap, and they spend a good part of the day trying to catch one. Sounds like good old fun.. So, anyway, in true college drop out fashion, we finished the project the morning it was due, we're setting such good examples huh? But we did get it done, and he was happy to bring it to school for all the fun.
He got home from school that day all excited about the day filled full of leprechaun hunting. The leprechaun had apparently come into my son's classroom while they were at lunch and "messed the place up" He threw papers on the floor, turned chairs over.. made a real mess, all the while looking for his pot of gold.. How cute is this? So, then my son tells me, that he wants to set up his leprechaun trap and try to catch one at home.. And someone, please tell me.. why am I such an idiot?? I had no idea that he in fact thought leprechauns were real.. I thought he was in on the hoax, and was just having fun.. So imagine the devastation in response to him wanting to catch a leprechaun when I say "But honey, you know they're not real right?" Long pause.. and then the tears come a pouring down.. Good lord.
So, another lie perpetuated.. and I'm full of apologies, "Of course they're real sweetie, I didn't understand what you said.." ugh! C'mon! Santa, the Easter Bunny, the mother fucking tooth fairy, and now leprechauns? Christ, he's never going to forgive me! Besides, I thought he would have been totally scared at the prospect of a tiny little man combing our house for gold!
It all ended fine though, he thought I had simply misunderstood what he said.. and after he stopped crying, we set up the trap, threw in the gold (a few pennies) and waited til the next morning to see if we had caught a leprechaun.. Of course considering the fact that I'm a college drop out, the trap was pretty lousy, and there was in fact no leprechaun in our trap the next morning.. I think my son was a bit relieved.. what was he going to do with a leprechaun???

Open House..

My husband and I tend to do things in a rather irresponsible and irrational manner when we get something in our heads.. Take today for example.. maybe it wasn't the smartest thing in the world to go to an open house 30 minutes away, with all of our kids, the morning after a major snow storm.. It was still happening.. that's what the realtor told us.. but I guess the realtor's forgot to tell the guy with the plow.. We had to trudge up a very long driveway (and when I say up, I really mean it.. a house perched on a steep hill..) My husband stayed in the car, and the realtor who was parked at the end of the unplowed driveway walked up with me.. We were the only ones that showed up.. We're not getting that house.. At least we don't have to endure the entire weekend wondering if that was the house for us! We're a bunch of idiots!
We did make up all the time the boys had to spend in the car by taking them to lunch at Margarita's.. If you want to get your own half of a restaurant, here's the trick.. you must go around 2, when the lunch crowd has gone, and a few stragglers are still in the main dining area. You also have to have infant twins, and two other young boys.. And there you go! Your very own section of the restaurant. I wasn't insulted that the manager put us as far as possible from the other diners, in a part of the restaurant that was clearly not open for service..I didn't want to ruin anyone else's meal.. and for the record, my kids behaved remarkably! In fact, one of the waitresses came over and commented on how well behaved they all were! hah.. we could have joined the civilized dining room after all!!

Vonage Still Sucks!

And I don't know why!!
I know other people have no issues with it.. and I've called the customer service line (which deserves its own blog entry) But nothing we've tried has helped.. It's still dropping calls all over the place! Having said that, I'm not going back to our regular phone service.. I'm just going to have to deal with the dropped calls. I have, however, started answering my phone like this "Vonage complaint line, can I help you?"

Another Blond Moment..

My husband and I are enjoying some peace and quiet this evening, having a couple drinks, when he reminded me of a blond moment I had a couple of weeks ago.. Here's how it went (and let me first say, I was totally distracted during this conversation, so as blond as it might seem, there really were a dozen things going on in my head- a very dangerous mix for a blond!)

He had just dropped off my oldest son at a birthday party..
"There were only about 4 boys there"
To which I so dumbly replied,
"Were the rest girls?"

Ok, there it is.. we both had a wonderful laugh at this ridiculous question.. hope it gives you all a laugh too!!

For Sale..

Spacious 2 bdrm, 1.5 bath, condex. Finished basement, deck, patio, wood stove, cathedral ceilings, sky light, attic, other room upstairs could be used as den (or another bedroom) recently painted (not this ugly brown..) New roof, new water tank, new well tank, hardwood throughout the downstairs, large professionally landscaped yard, outbuilding, and NO CONDO FEES!! Very charming.. someone please buy it.. also included: one 3 year old boy, almost potty trained!! ;)
I am already tired of dealing with trying to sell our place, trying to find a new one.. It's not going to be fun.. In the past two days, I've had 2 real estate brokers over to look at the place and come up with something for us. I haven't heard back from anyone yet. I don't think we'll go with any of them, a friend of ours is coming over on Sunday, and most likely, we'll go with her. I did like the woman who came over today. She just would not stop about how nice our place was, and how it would be so easy to show. Kiss ass. But I loved it!

We've gotten our good faith approval letter from a mortgage company (yeah!) And we have narrowed down the houses we think we can get.. and afford. I'm sure we won't be staying in our town.. looks like we'll be heading north a bit.. but we knew that going into it. You just get so much more house for your money.. As much as I love this area, we just can't get the space we need with the money we have. Oh well. My son said he'd be ok moving and going to a new school.. That is probably my biggest concern at this point, the kids and the schools. I should have a pool going on when we'll get cold feet and back out of this.. again!
Anyway, I'm off to do some more searching on line for homes.. But isn't this the cutest? Someone out there will want it right??

Tuesday, March 13, 2007

I brought my son to see a pulmonologist yesterday. Something his dad was supposed to, but on Saturday I found out that he had forgotten to take the time off. Luckily, my mom was able to come over and stay with one of the twins and my youngest son, and I was off to Dartmouth hospital in Manchester, a place that I've unfortunately spent too much time at recently..
The doctor was very nice, and I felt comfortable with proceeding with treatment for what he thinks is asthma. We've gotten him yet another prescription for an inhaler , a stronger one, one with steroids, that he's going to use for a week. If it hasn't helped his cough significantly, then we'll do some more testing, maybe a cat scan on his sinuses.
My husband sent with me a list of questions to ask the doctor, which I did.. reluctantly, because unlike him, I don't think that his cough is caused by something dreadful. I don't think he's got some lung abscess or an immune deficiency problem. He's had a normal chest xray, and he's otherwise a very healthy boy. But the doctor was very nice about explaining to me why it's nothing serious (like cancer).
So, we'll see...
It's been a crazy past few days. We have a realtor coming over to look at our house tomorrow, so that has sent us into panic mode, with all the cleaning, and all the crap we have. My god, we own a lot of shit, and my kids do not need one more friggin toy! My mom came over and helped out with some of the cleaning.. but of course there's still more.
We looked at our first house on Saturday, or more like I looked at it. What a dump. It made me nervous about what type of house we're going to be able to afford. However, with my "excellent" credit (something I didn't have when we bought our first house) I might be helpful with getting a better rate.. we'll see! My husband was disappointed last night to find out that my credit was 45 points higher than his, and only rated as "good" credit!
I'm currently at work, wishing that I didn't have the sniffles..something I've been holding onto for the last few days. I'm tired of blowing my nose, and more tired of seeing the back of my husbands head during the night as he heads downstairs because I'm snoring so loud! Snoring just seems like something old men do.. not blond haired blue eye breast feeding moms! Ya know?? Ugh.. such is life though.. at least I'm getting the bed to myself (with a twin thrown in here and there!)

Sunday, March 11, 2007

The husband is at band practice this afternoon.. even though I'm sick.. not puking sick, but head cold sick.. I asked him to stay home, and he just smiled at me.. I know he loves playing music, but c'mon! He asked me if I wanted him to quit... I don't. I want him to want to quit..but that ain't ever going to happen!

Sick, sick and some more sick..

I have been up to my eyeballs in sick kids for the past 10 or so days.. It has so sucked.. The babies have this horrible cough that does nothing but keep them awake all hours of the night. The boys are also coughing, more so for my oldest one.. and that is just freaking his dad right out because we've been battling his cough for almost 8 months now.. He sees a pulmonologist on Monday.. My youngest was out of commission for a few days, just sleeping on the couch, I must say, I enjoyed that tremendously! But he's back in full form, although the flu he had has only given him enough juice to last a few hours, which makes the rest of the day a living hell for me because nothing anyone does is ever good enough, and then it's whine city.. I miss that little boy asleep on my couch! I know how bad that is, but dang, it was a nice break from his usual antics!
In the middle of all of this, we've decided to start looking for a new house.. And I might be crazy, but we've decided to try to find a place with an in law apartment, or finished walk out basement for my mom. Why on earth would we do this? Because we need a bigger house, and she'll pay rent. It all boils down to money.. Well, one of the babies is now talking in her crib.. time to wipe some noses.. and get on with my day.. tgiff!

McAsswipe..

Ok, I know I'm just jealous.. but my husband and I are guessing the only reason that McDreamy is looking so fabulously happy, and well rested is because of all the McNanny's him and his wife can McHire.. Generally, I'm a big fan of the McHunkaburnin'love, but right now, after 3-4 hours of sleep, he looks like a big McDoofus! Grrr..

Happy Birthday Little Miss!!

My niece just had her 2nd birthday.. here she is being sung to.. who loves this head band by the way? Olivia Newton John has some competition!

I'm Getting What I Pay For..

This is how I'm feeling toward Vonage.. We've had it about 6 weeks, and frankly, it's sucking...
I know some of it are user issues.. like the fact that half the time I can't my voice mail and I don't know why. But more importantly, for some reason whenever I get an important phone call, like from my sons school, the call inadvertently gets dropped. It's annoying me. Having said that, I don't intend on getting rid of it.. I guess for 14.99 a month I'll have to deal with all the drop calls and lousy reception..

Sunday, March 04, 2007

We picked up his new glasses today.. how handsome is he? He's been trying them on all day.. he only needs them for distance, but surprisingly, everything looks so much clearer!

Friday, March 02, 2007

WTF is this??

And why is it in my house?
Three of my four kids are sick.. runny noses, one with a fever. That's all I'm going to say about that.. you can only guess what fun it's been at my house.
I got my oldest son his glasses the other day.. Spongebob frames. Yup, that's right! Those were the only ones he would go for, and he got all shy about trying on any other ones. But don't think that they have Sponge-boob all over them. You would never know.. they just put some stickers on the lenses to attract the kids, there's also a small picture of him on the arm of the glasses that face your neck, so no one would ever see it. Anyhoo, he'll get those next week sometime.
My husband has been on vacation this week, which for some reason has left me useless. I don't know what it is about having him home, but I just can't seem to get anything done. I did get two naps in today with one of the sick girls.. that was nice, and something I never get to do! Yesterday my mother in law took the boys and I out to lunch. That was very nice.. the hubby stayed home with the girls, and we arrived back 2 hours later to a not so happy house.. Apparently lunch with his mother shouldn't take that long.. um, ok.. I'll make sure she hurries up next time.. she's only 76 for crying out loud! And when do I ever get to go out to lunch with just my boys??
Anyway, I don't really have much else of interest to post (like the above was interesting at all..) But it's Friday, and it's raining, instead of snow.. we have water in our basement (where my nephew lives) He called us at 5 from work to tell us that his work clothes were wet, and the basement must be leaking.. yup it is, but for once the fact that he's a total slob has worked in our favor because all of his clothes laying on the floor have soaked up the water.. Good boy!

Eyes, and Ears..

It was a day of checking to see if things worked.. on the boys anyway. My youngest son had his hearing test today, and passed with flying colors! Apparently when I'm begging him to stop whining, he can hear me just fine.. My husband brought my oldest in for his eye test at the doctor's, and he needs glasses. A part of me feels bad, and worried about any teasing he might get at school, but another part of me can't wait to see how friggin cute he's going to look in a pair of glasses! I'm hoping that the other 1st graders will embrace him, and be a bit jealous of his new specs.. but we'll see. He only has to wear them to see the board, and things like that.. He's going to look as smart as he really is!

This made me cry tonight.. I can't imagine what their family is going through.. I am so thankful for having healthy children, but it really makes you realize that life is not fair, and that it could change in an instant..

My First Date..

It wasn't really a date.. I was only 9, and in the third grade.. but he was the cutest boy in class, and he asked me to go to Happy Wheels (the local rollerskating rink). I was totally giddy at the idea of going with him.. he was dark, and handsome, not so much on the tall side.. but what a cutie!
I don't remember a lot about that day in particular, I do remember scrounging up money in case he didn't pay for me.. I think his mom must have taken us..but anyway, it was pretty exciting.. That is until we got there.. We were having fun just skating around. Holding hands a little bit.. The butterflies were afluttering.. And then, from out of nowhere, during a break, he pulled me aside and offered me a cigarette. He had a carton of Marlboro Red's on him. ?? I have no idea how a boy of nine got a carton of butts, but I was totally turned off, and that was the last time we ever had any interaction. I was just terrified.

This story wouldn't be so interesting, if it didn't end like this.. The boy in this story turned out to be a semi famous rock star.. Aaron Lewis, the frontman of the band Staind. He was in true rock star fashion even at 9 years old! I always wondered what happened to him, and it wasn't until a few years ago, that I saw a video of his, and knew instantly who he was.. Good for him that his rock star ways got him somewhere!

I got a call this morning from the nurse at my son's school. In the .2 seconds that it took her to introduce herself, I mentally got everyone ready to go pick him up, and I'm thinking that he wasn't sick when he left.. I hope he's ok, all that. But she's not calling because he's sick. She's calling to tell me that he had an eye and ear screening on Friday, and didn't pass the eye part of it. She thinks his vision might be around 20/60, but she wasn't sure if he was nervous, and wanted to re-screen him. She thought getting a family history might be helpful, and did my husband or I wear glasses. We don't, but my sister later reminded me that everyone else in our families do.
I didn't hear back from her today, but my son told me that he went back to see the nurse and did the eye exam again. He said it was hard.. especially when he stood far away.. So, we'll see what comes of this. All I'm thinking of is how cute he'd look in glasses! It seems like there's always something! I guess that's what you get with 4 kids..

Webkinz...

I guess these are the latest craze in the first grade. They are called "webkinz". My son had to have one (he's got the monkey, because his class is called the monkey's) My youngest son got the pink poodle that he's calling "bluey".. Oh, and the monkey has been named "tutu".
Anyway, you can go to the website and adopt them, register them and play games with them.. they love it.. My youngest is currently bugging me to finish up so that he can go on line.. I love being in charge...

Cousins..

Here are the boys with their cousin.. my twin sister's daughter.. the red cheeks would be from all the running and screaming they did.. They're going to protect her, and she's going to teach them what it means to be a gentleman.. I'm hoping!

Brothers..

He asked to wear this headband.. so that he could be part of the "band".. pretty cute!

Baby Safe Feeders..

This is the best thing for a baby to have. You can put whatever you want the babies to eat, without fear of choking. They can just mash it in between their gums, and suck out all the goodies through the mesh bag. The girls love it, and it totally occupies them for a good chunk of time, at least long enough for me to get some laundry done!

Thursday, February 15, 2007

My husband rearranged all my food cupboards last week, and I can't find anything. It's driving me a bit crazy. I know he did it to help, and somehow thought that his arrangement was easier.. but really, it's not. I haven't said anything about it, I guess when I have a minute, I'll rearrange his rearranging. Like I've got a bunch of minutes to waste doing that! sigh...
Yesterday was a snow day, so everyone was home. It allowed me to get a 30 minute nap with one of the babies, and do a bunch of laundry. Fun.
Today they had a 2 hour delay, and then I spent the remainder of my day doing more laundry and cooking dinner. Then I spent 20+ minutes at the kitchen table trying to get my youngest son to eat his dinner. Sometimes spoon feeding him is the only way to go, and he usually gets right into it, perhaps there's some regression going on there.. but whatever, it works. I gave him a bite (just a chicken and rice casserole) and he proceeded to scream, refused to chew it, and then spit it on my shoe. Why oh why am I constantly struggling with that child? That was the end of our somewhat quiet meal. His screams scared the girls who were just hanging out in their exersaucers by my chair. I had to pick them both up, and try to finish my dinner, and get the demon to stop crying. I was more pleased than usual to get to work tonight.. but tomorrow is another day, and I'm sure I'll muster up enough patience to deal with him, and hopefully he'll keep whatever he's eating inside his mouth and away from my feet!

Sick Day..

My oldest son was home sick from school today (although he was clearly not sick by 9 a.m. when he was running after his brother trying to get him with his light saber..) My youngest son was thrilled to have his big brother home to play with him, but like anything in life, too much of something isn't always a good thing, and too much time together gets those boys on each other's nerves in a big way! Most of the afternoon was spent with the boys running to me to tell on the other one. I heard a lot of "You're not the boss of me" from my oldest, and a lot of "He won't play with me" from my youngest. I was a frazzled mess by the time my husband got home..
The girls were great, they were just enthralled by watching the boys interact with each other. It really is quite a sight! But here I am at work.. looking forward to another day of all the kids being home.. looks like we're going to get nailed with quite a big storm. The best part is that since my husband is a teacher, he'll be home to help out! He didn't seem too thrilled about the prospect of that.. but oh well.. welcome to my world honey!

Just a few things..

The weekend flew by, like they always do. I did manage to get some "me" time on Saturday night. I went over to my sister's house, and hung out with her, her husband and my niece for a while.. it was a welcome break! Another welcome break came in the form of my sister taking the boys over to her house on Sunday to sled and play on the ice (they live on a river..) It was great to see them get out and have some fun, and to just take care of the girls.
Today I made an appointment for my youngest son to have a hearing test. The therapists at the school recommended it to rule out any hearing issues that may be hindering his speech.. So, they had a cancellation and could see us today. Fine. My mother in law came over to get my oldest son off the bus, and I took the girls with me. Heaven forbid I leave them for a second.. Well, I should have. They were ok, but needed to be held (as always) and my 3 year old saw what was expected of him, and freaked out. They wanted him to get into a sound proof booth, a rather dark one, and listen to some lady that he couldn't see. Yea, right! I should have known that I had bitten off much more than I could chew, but with 4 kids, and my mom out of commission to babysit, I had to bring the girls. I could have gone into the booth with him, had I not been with the babies.. great! And the nice audiologist says "didn't they tell you that when you booked the appointment?" No, but of course I didn't tell them I was coming with a litter of kids either.
So anyhoo, I've got an appointment for after his speech eval, which does nothing for us.. I'm going to try and find another place to go. Jeez.. I'm exhausted from reliving this here in my blog! I won't even get into the fact that I used the valet at the dr's office, and the guy almost drove off with one of the babies.. Apparently he thought I was done unloading! Or, forgetting all the baby bags in my car too (including my purse), I was too flustered after almost getting my kid parked with my car that I just spaced it.
One last thing.. I decided last night that instead of listening to my husband whine about how tired he was, that I was going to sleep in the girl's room, and get up with them so that he could sleep.. I blew up our air mattress which fit just perfectly in between their cribs (it's a rather small modest bedroom..) It would have been fine, if there wasn't an apparent slow leak in the mattress that as the night wore on, the bed just got bouncier. I couldn't move without practically launching one of the babies off of it. And it was sooo cold! I guess air doesn't stay warm.. Needless to say I won't be doing that again..
Well, I'm here at work, and I wish I could just lay my head down.. I have another appointment at the school on Wednesday, but it looks like we might get a bunch of snow.. I'm ok with that. I'd rather lay low anyway.. I think I need a vacation.. maybe from my life.. maybe for a week or so..

Separation Anxiety..

The girls are going through some pretty serious separation anxiety. I can't leave the room without them totally freaking out. It's made my day a bit noisier, as I occasionally do have to go from one room to the next, and can't always carry them with me. I remember this with the boys, but of course carrying them around was a lot easier.

One is napping, and the other one is in the baby carrier on my lap as I type. Heaven forbid I turn my back for more than 2 seconds!

So, it's Friday, and I'm feeling a bit of separation anxiety myself. My husband is going out tonight, with a friend to see a band in Portsmouth. Tomorrow he has band practice.. so I'll be a single parent most of the weekend. I'm trying to be supportive, and I understand that he needs an outlet.. but damn, so do I! I didn't mind his band playing when we were in our 20's.. and had no children. I found it quite entertaining to go see him play (the couple of times that he did) I thought it was actually quite sexy.. But not so much anymore.. First of all, they aren't playing anywhere but some guys basement, and second, what's sexy about a bunch of guys in their late 30's jamming without lyrics, a singer?

This is not to say that my husband isn't sexy, but the things that make him sexy to me now are different than when we were young.. his ability to be a good father, and provide for his family.. the fact that he's not only an art teacher and musician, but a self taught carpenter as well..That's sexier than anything to me. But here I am.. with 4 kids to myself all weekend.. so that he can fulfill his needs.. I say that makes me pretty damn sexy myself!

6 months..

Yesterday was the first time that I've had to buy diapers for the girls. My friends and family have kept me stocked up for a full 6 months!! Thank you all!

Thursday, February 08, 2007

I had my meeting with the special ed team at the school today. It went really well, and besides the fact that I don't think those people see much laughter at their job (I knocked em dead, had them rolling on the floor!) I don't think they move too fast either. My son will have all the testing required and I'll go back to meet with them at the end of March.. my dream of getting him into preschool might not happen til next fall.. But at least I'm on the right track, and hopefully he'll be getting the help he (and me) so desperately need.
I brought one of the twins with me, the one who always gets to come with me because apparently she can't bare to be away from me. She was amazing (if I do say so myself!) She just sat in her stroller and played with her bottle the entire hour! I also got to pick my oldest son up in his classroom. He was surprised, and quite excited to see me there. All of his classmates came running over to see the baby.. and every one of them tried touching her.. but I was pretty good keeping the little paws off of her, and no one cried when I yelled at them.. kidding..
Anyway, I'm tired.. but what the hell else is new? I'm getting tired of complaining about it, but I have to say I've never known fatigue like this before.. One of the people at the meeting today has a set of twins who are 10. We were talking briefly about sleep deprivation and she said you can really get used to it.. I haven't found that to be true yet. I'm one of those people that really need sleep, and functioning on less than 7 or 8 hours is difficult, if not impossible. I know it'll go by fast, and if it doesn't kill me, then it will only make me stronger! Or some kind of crap like that..

We Suck..

I'm feeling like a total failure as a parent because I can not, for the life of me, let those babies cry it out.. ugh. It really sucks! I'm so tired, and cranky, and this winter weather is pissing me off..

I'm really trying to be positive about the situation, I know it won't last forever. But that's little consolation at 2 in the morning when I've just gotten one back to sleep (on the breast of course) and the other one wakes up right as I'm about to doze back to sleep.. I'm not blind to the fact either that I'm creating this. That if I had more of a backbone, and didn't feel so completely guilty when I hear them cry, that maybe we'd be on a better road.. But I suck at that, and so here I am.

February vacation is when things will change.. At least that's how I'm fighting it now. My husband will have a week off, and although he doesn't know this yet, he's going to be getting up with them. He has to. One of us has to be strong, and I'm thinking the one without the boobs should have to get them back to sleep.! Right?

It's like a slap in the face..

I've been watching Lost faithfully since day 1.. through all the stupid shit they've done on that show (killing the cute guy Boone, putting a polar bear on the island..etc) Even when I found out that they were going on hiatus for most of this years season, I still thought, that's ok, I'll watch it.. I'll be the loyal fan that I am.. Until now.

I'm guessing if they haven't totally lost all respect, and most of their fans, this might do it.. 10pm? Oh come on now! Some of us need to sleep, and get up early, and deal with 4 kids all day! Who can stay up that late? On a week night no less.. So, that's it for me. No more Lost.. no more finding out who Kate really loves.. (like I give a rats ass..) Or what's up with the "others" or with Locke, or Michael.. where did he go? Ugh.. So many unanswered questions that I'll have to find out other ways instead of watching the show.. Remember when it first started? It was on at 8!

YUMMERS..

Someone my husband works with gave us a bunch of baby food. I thought that was a very nice gesture.. too bad it's going to go to waste.. over half of it was this shit right here.. Veal and veal gravy.. Um, no thanks.. I'm not giving my babies pureed baby cow.. if I won't eat it, then neither will they.

Sick..

I spent my day Sunday finally answering a question I've pondered for quite some time "What would it be like to be sick with 4 kids?"
Well, it sucked.
I wasn't vomiting sick, or crapping every 2 minutes sick, it was just your basic general malaise. I couldn't do much standing because it hurt my head, and I had the chills, and body aches.. All those things that render you pretty much useless.. But being mom to 4 kids, 2 of whom completely rely on you, makes the hours go by like days, and the day itself drone on endlessly.
But I'm better now, in fact I was pretty much better by the end of the day. It was weird, but I'm thankful that I didn't have to force my husband to stay home with me on Monday.. that would have been way too much for him!! By Sunday night he's usually dreaming of all the snot nosed, back talking, ill mannered kids at his school, and counting the minutes until he can be with them again!

Dumb Da Dumb Dumb Dumb...

There's a new person at work..and when I say new, I mean she's been here since November, so she's not that new. I don't usually blog about people I work with for fear of them finding it..and honestly, I like the people I work with a lot, and most of them read my blog anyway.. but this woman has no idea about it, and would never find it anyway, she couldn't find her way out of a paper bag, ya know? One of those! Thankfully, I don't have to work with her much. She's nice enough, but sometimes nice just isn't enough..
Here's how she files papers.. There are only 2 drawers in our filing cabinet. When you go and file things, you have a bunch of papers, you look to see where one is, and you put it in the correct slot, look at the other one, and so on.. Well, if you're her.. you take one paper, open the drawer, file it, close the drawer, look at another paper, open the same drawer, file it, and repeat this process until you've filed everything. Normal people, would keep the drawer open.. right? This nonsense of opening and closing.. and opening and closing.. what the hell is that about?? And if she has a question to ask you (which she always does) she needs you to come over to her desk. So she'll come over to yours "You got a minute?" And then walk you back to her desk, turning her head every few feet like you're 5, making sure that you're still coming. One of these times, I'm going to dash off to the bathroom, so when she turns to check and see if I'm still coming, I won't be! ugh.. time to stop hiring people because they have a pulse!

To Ween or Not to Ween..

In an effort to try to get more sleep, I've been thinking of weening the girls from breastfeeding. They're 6 months old, and really only nurse before bed, and first thing in the morning. Oh, and all night! It's not the easiest decision for me to make.. I really enjoy nursing them, and I kind of feel like this will be the end of something, an era maybe.. at least in my own pathetic mind!
I've nursed my kids a total of 5 1/2 years! I don't have to mention the shape my boobs are in (which would be no shape, what so ever) I also hate to think of letting this free milk just dry up, since formula is so expensive. I've thought about pumping, but there's that time issue.. and the fact that I don't have any! I guess I thought that if I stopped nursing, then maybe they would sleep better.. you know, knowing that there wasn't any good boobie juice waiting for them.. so they might as well sleep. My husband thinks I just need to not nurse them when they wake up, I agree, but it's hard when they associate you with milk, and know that under your shirt is what they're waiting for, and why they're awake, and what the hell is wrong with you for not giving it to me!! Followed by a lot of screaming.. and quite frankly, I'm too tired to fight it, and I always give in.. It sucketh in a big way.. I guess I'm going to have to think about it a bit.. I feel guilty in a way, stopping this soon.. the boys were 18 months, and 2 1/2.. I know it's different, and that they weren't nursing at the same time.. honestly, I'd miss the convenience, the lack of effort it takes to just pull out your boob, and the comfort it provides for them.. Maybe I'll just sleep on it.. hah! If I ever get to sleep again!! I said good night to my husband last night and he said "I doubt it"

Wednesday, January 31, 2007

My daughter had her ultrasound yesterday.. to follow up on her hydronephrosis.. She did really well, she laughed and smiled at the technician the whole time. It was pretty funny, and pretty out of character for her, but I was thrilled not to have to hold her down! Anyway, the results were great, the swelling in her left kidney has gone from severe to mild, and she doesn't need to be seen for another 6 months. Yea!
My oldest son follows up with his allergist tomorrow, an appointment my husband was going to take him to, but now he can't. That only means that me, my other son, and the twins are going to have to pick him up at school, haul ass over to Portsmouth, and try to listen to the doctor while taking care of my 4 kids at the same time. Not to mention all the times we'll be getting in and out of the car.. definitely the hardest part of any trip.
I got a letter today from the school informing me of an IEP meeting to assess my younger son's speech articulation issues. That's next week, and my husband and I are invited to attend. I went to one last year for my other son. It's a packed room let me tell you. But I don't want to miss a bunch of people sitting around talking about my son..
Oh, and lets not forget the youngest of all, my other twin.. The one who lets me go about my business, and will sit patiently in her exersaucer so that I can grab some laundry, or a snack for her brother.. the calm, seemingly independent of the duo.. Poor little thing, got stepped on this afternoon by her big brother (the younger of the boys..) He was being his very busy self and forgot where she was, and just stepped down on her. He thought he had stepped on her head, but it was only her leg. He kept saying sorry, and crying on and on. She was fine, and only cried for a second. I think he thought she was going to be mad at him. After I told him that she didn't know who had done it, he seemed a bit more relieved.
Never a dull moment..

Geography Lesson..

The other day, my oldest son wanted to play a game with me. He got a puzzle of the United States for Christmas and has spent a lot of time piecing it together. He can spell most of them and has done this for me on more than one occasion. This was a new game, one he made up. He had me hold up the states, with the printed side facing me, and he named ALL the states, just by seeing their shape! I thought this was amazing.. some of the states he couldn't pronounce, so he spelled them instead! Oh, and this includes all the provinces of Canada! And to think his kindergarten teacher thought there was something wrong with him last year!

Daughter of the Douche Bag..

One day last week, as I was getting my older son ready for the bus, I happened to look out my kitchen window, and see my neighbor's kid at the end of the driveway waiting for the bus. I wasn't too surprised to see her there, her mom's a bit of a douche bag in my opinion. This was the same kid that showed up almost every day last summer, without invitation or even a call to see if she could. Anyway, when my son and I got out there, she said her mom was too cold and didn't want to come out, so she told her to come to our stop. Um, ok.. But, who does that? Apparently a douche bag. The girl is only a first grader, same age as my son, and there is no way I would just send him to the neighbors house to catch the bus because it's too cold.. does this woman think it's easy for me to get outside, with 3 other kids in the house? That hasn't stopped me from getting my child to the bus stop. Anyway, I felt bad for the kid, and thought the mom was pretty pathetic.. Well, that was last week, on Wednesday.. and she's been out there every morning since! I feel like I should say something to her, I don't want her daughter to be my responsibility, and basically she is. However, this lady is a bit scary. She's one of those people that you try to avoid, in a nice way, but would never want to be on their bad side. She's a tough chick! Ugh.. but what an ass!

I love peanuts.. I love my peanuts..

This is a song that my 6 year old has made up and sang all weekend...If he sings it fast, or if you hear it from the other room.. yea, it sounds like "I love penis, I love my penis"..

I'm thinking of a number between.. (you know the commerical, right?)

For whatever reason, I decided to check out my credit report today. I've been paying back my school loan for a year now, which was the only thing left on my not so hot credit report.. at least it wasn't so hot 5 years ago when I last checked it. I couldn't even get a Fashion Bug credit card (not like I really wanted one, but they were offering 10% off to open one.. unfortunately I didn't get the 10% either) but today I scored an impressive 745! Which is deemed as "excellent credit" Hah! I don't want to brag, but wtf? How did that happen?? I guess time heals all huh?? Anyhoo, I promptly went on line and got myself an Old Navy credit card.. loaded up my shopping cart..thought twice, and then x'd out of it.. I guess because my credit seems to be in good shape doesn't mean I want to get it all shitty again.. it was a definite boost to my credit esteem! Finally after all these years of lousy credit, I seem to be on the right track! yee-ha!

Gender Confusion..

"Is that a man, mommy? Mommy? Is that a man? Is it mommy, is it a man?"

This is what my youngest was saying as he's running up behind me at Sears while this rather effeminate man was helping us find something. I could have died. Of course my son is extremely persistent, and wasn't letting this go unanswered, I was just kind of shooing him away as I followed the guy, telling him to shush. Luckily my husband who was walking behind me pushing the girls stroller, managed to get him to shut up by suggesting a game of "quiet" with his brother.
It's funny how most days I can't understand half of what comes out of his mouth, and then there are days when he is so crystal clear, it's scary!

Finger Painting..

Santa got my youngest finger paints this year.. I don't know what he was thinking.. he mustn't have realized that it was going to stain my kitchen table.. I bet next year he'll bring some nice crayons, or markers!

What goes thump in the night??

Your baby.. if you're so tired that you let her fall asleep on your chest, on the couch at 1:30 in the morning, convinced that you'll only shut your eyes for a minute.. that is until 30 minutes later when you wake up to the sound of your child screaming, as she lays on the floor. And then forget about getting any sleep for the rest of the night because you will be sleeping with her, checking every 5 minutes to make sure she is still breathing.
I can't even express the guilt, and sheer terror I felt for letting this happen. Thankfully she was ok, but jeez, it did nothing but make me feel like a shitty parent. I'm hoping they sleep better tonight..

Sick Babies..Tax Returns.. and The Only Person I Know Who Has No Teeth

I spent my day today trying to function on 2 hours of sleep last night. It was not easy.. One of the twins is sick.. and spent all night crying, except for the few 20 minute intervals of sleep she did on my chest.. I brought her to the doctors today convinced that she had an ear infection.. which she didn't. But she did have some fluid in the ear she pulled on all night.. but no infection. My hope tonight is that I get so drunk, that I don't even hear her cry. Oh I'm so kidding.. but at this point I'm thinking that might be the only way I ever get any sleep. My husband didn't sleep great either, as he was in charge of the other baby, who much like her sister (and brothers for that matter) prefer me. I never thought being someones favorite person would require so much friggin work!
In other news.. I started to prepare our taxes for this past year.. If anyone out there wants a hefty refund, here's the key: Have a ton of kids, and marry a school teacher! Living at the poverty level ain't so bad!
Ahhh.. what else.. what else.. oh, my brother called me last night.. I just love talking it up with him. I can always assume that whatever he's telling me is a complete and total lie.. but it's always amusing to hear what he has to say.. He was looking for my mother's phone number, something he does on a regular basis. I asked him why he always has my number, but never hers.. Well duh, mine is in the phonebook, and her cell phone is not. I guess I never realized that he knew my married name, this guy does not retain much. He only talked to me for a couple of minutes, asked me how my kids were, of course he never asks how his own kids are, or how's the one that my husband and I raised since he was 12.. Why would he do that? Loser. At least he's looking the part of the white trash that he is without his teeth.. I guess he's telling people he was in a boating accident.. um, ok. He's also claiming to be interviewing for a job as department head at a Home Depot where he lives. I'm guessing that boating accident or not, they might want their department heads to have some teeth, at least the front ones... maybe??

Creme horns..

I took the girls and my youngest to Walmart today, such fun getting everyone bundled up, out to the car, and all the way there listening to the girls scream, they absolutely hate the car..But I had to go.. I needed some essentials.. toothpaste for the boys, dish washing detergent, and mainly I just wanted to get out of my house before it caved in on me! So, we get to Walmart after the babies have finally cried themselves to sleep, go all over that stupid store trying to squeeze everything I need into the double stroller.. make it through all the people who stop to comment on the babies, bundle everyone back up, get back in the car, listen to them scream yet again, until we get home. Then have lunch, and realize that I have forgotten a bag at the store.. the important one.. the one with the toothpaste, and my very yummy dessert! Crap. I was more upset about that than anything, nothing like having a craving for some very bad food, and then not getting it! Oh, where is the instant gratification in that?? Of course there is no way that I'm driving back there, so I called my husband and left him a message at school to call me, thinking he could swing by on his way home from work. The weird thing is, he never called me back.. He always calls me back.. hmm.. this got me to thinking, and it dawned on me that we were now Vonage customers as of today, and my phone was still plugged into the wall.. Crap (again). Unfortunately, I am one of those people who can not do anything with any sort of cords, be it phone or cable or just plain electrical. I just can't seem to wrap my brain around it, and I know that I would screw something up. So, now my kids have no toothpaste, and they'll have to use ours (parish the thought!) And my dessert is sitting in the customer service section of Walmart (it was only creme horns, but damn I love those things!)

My husband and I drove to Manchester this morning to Dartmouth Medical Center for our daughter with hydronephrosis. We had been going to Childrens Hosptial in Boston, but our insurance didn't cover all of it, and the drive to Manchester is so much easier, and closer. Anyway, the doctor was nice enough, he showed us the ultrasound she had at Childrens, and explained it in gripping detail.. Then said, "Ok, we'll see you in a month or so for her ultrasound" He apparently wasn't aware that she was already due for an ultrasound, and that is in fact why we were there.. They couldn't squeeze her in either, not until later this afternoon, and we couldn't wait around for it. So, we're going back next week, and when I say "we" I mean me because my husband can't (or won't) get another day off of school. He actually felt guilty taking the time off.. he's really got a great work ethic, but come on, it's one day, and it's for your daughter!
Anyway, we went to the mall in Manchester because my husband didn't want to go right home. We walked around, got accosted by all sorts of people with good intentions, so that they could get a better look at the twins.. I swear, it's like people have never seen twins before! We live in an age where twins are not that big of a deal.. they're everywhere!
We got home to my mother who was watching my younger son. She found out today that she has to have surgery on her hand, the one she broke last week. Turns out that the spot where she broke it, basically severed the pinky finger from the rest of her hand. They're going to put a pin in it, and then remove it in 30 days. Bummer..
My son did something today that I think he did once before when he was under 2. He actually stuck his hand in his diaper, right into the shit he had just taken. I don't know what possessed him to do this, and my mom said he just came over to her with it all over his hands. I was being told this as we had walked through the door, and he's bent over touching the babies faces! My mom reassured me that he had washed his hands.. but yuck! Later, he came over to talk to me, and I'm thinking he must have pooped again because that's all I can smell. He vehemently denies this, and then I realize that the smell is coming from his head.. So, he must have stuck his little paws inside his diaper, and run his fingers through his hair. Good lord.. he'll get a good soaking tonight.. My husband thought it was pretty funny, and at dinner tonight he told my son that he likes what he's done with his hair.."are you washing it with something new?" Then I asked him if he was using a leave in dung conditioner?? It went over his head of course, but he was laughing along with the rest of us..
That pretty much wraps up my day.. I was so happy driving to work tonight.. ahhh.. there is nothing like getting out of my house some days.. If only for a little while..

What is 20 years old, sleeps all day, never lifts a finger to help around the house and thinks he was put on this earth to debate anything that comes out of my mouth? My nephew.. he's 20 today! Happy Birthday to the laziest, most arrogant, ungrateful, immature kid on the planet.. Why does he think he knows so much when he can't even pay his bills, or his rent, and is living in my basement working 15 hours a week?? I'm starting to think letting him move back in a month ago wasn't such a good idea.. ya think???

Lovie and Tony

Anyone who knows a Patriots fan, knows the pain they are feeling today. I didn't watch all of the game, exhaustion sent me to bed early. But I did get an update at about 11 pm when my husband came to bed.

It's not like the Patriots haven't won an awful lot over the past few years, so to see them lose in the playoffs wasn't that upsetting to me. I think fate is in play here.. with Lovie Smith from the Bears, and Tony Dungy from the Colts. I couldn't believe that the NFL has never seen an African American coach in the Super Bowl. Well, now they have two.. it's about time. Sorry to the Pat's fans, but history is being made here.. finally! And who wouldn't root for a big black guy named Lovie??

Ouch..

My mom fell at work last night, and ended up breaking her hand, and her nose. She tripped on some netting in the garden dept (at the local home depot) and it just sent her to the floor. She landed on her right hand and her face.. She's in good spirits considering.. although when I saw her she was on some pretty good pain meds.. Anyway, here she is..

Brand New..

I was feeling like a change, so I got rid of the pink. This feels a bit more like me.. I wish I was a bit more savvy.. I'd like a new font.. that sounds simple, but I can't figure it out.. Anyone got any tips for me??

Tooth # 2 (not in #2)

My son lost his second tooth tonight during dinner, and unlike last time, I have the tooth, and the tooth fairy will be stopping by this evening with a bit of cash.. He was so proud of himself for not swallowing this tooth! And much like the first tooth he lost, the new one has grown up right behind it.. Nothing like taking your time with something!

Doh!

Here's my husband with the girls.. He really doesn't enjoy being photographed.. Nice smile though! Dork..

Picture day..

I finally cleaned up my camera and have some room for new pictures.. It's been a while since I posted any of the girls.. here they are..

I had some company today.. and got some pictures.. Here's Ctale and her 6 week old baby Miss S.. How great does mom look? And that baby?? I hear she can be quite a crab at times, but I don't believe it! I guess she likes to be out and about! Oh, and thank you Ctale for the yummy lunch (homemade mac and cheese w/whoopie pies for dessert..yum!!) I'll miss you when you go back to work!

Desperate..

In an attempt to try to get some sleep, my husband and I have decided to let the girls cry it out. Last night was the first night, and 1/2 hour later, they were snoozing away. They were such good sleepers about a month ago, and it seems like all of a sudden we have found ourselves in this terrible pattern of constant waking, and constant nursing. It wouldn't be so bad if it were just one baby, but with twins this sleep pattern gets exhausting.
It didn't stop with just one bout of crying last night. A few different times they woke up and cried.. it was excruciating to hear them and not do anything about it. I did go in a few times and just rub their back so that they would know I was there, and I think it was at 3 that my husband told me to get the one that was crying. So, we basically broke down and gave in. It's hard not to when all you want is sleep.
We'll try again tonight, and hopefully have more luck, and be more consistent. I put them down for their nap this morning, and they only cried for about 5 minutes. Maybe we're on our way to something good.. we'll see!!

My son's 1st grade class spent a lot of last week learning about Martin Luther King jr. in preparation for the upcoming holiday. I thought this was great. It was amazing listening to my son tell me why the "blacks and whites" were kept separate, and to hear how he interpreted the history he was learning. He doesn't understand the depth of what went on, and I tried explaining how Dr. King was fighting for civil rights, and equality. I'm not sure how much went over his 6 year old head but I was really impressed with his teacher for starting that discussion at such an early age.

My son then went on to ask me "Mom, remember when I was a black?"
"Um, no."
"You know, that summer I went camping, and my skin was dark?"
"Oh, yes, I remember that, but you were tan.. from the sun. Being black or white is something that you're born with"
"Oh, like my brown eyes?"
"Exactly."

Wally..

This is what my husband called one of the twins this morning.. the one who sometimes looks like she's got a "wall eye" Nice. He felt immediately bad, like any decent parent would, but I did get a tiny giggle out of it.. Here's Wally about 3 months ago..

Dumped.

My nephew got dumped today by his girlfriend of 41/2 months. I totally feel for the kid, this was his first girlfriend, and he really was into her. What makes matters worse, is that she left him for her ex boyfriend.. someone that my nephew had met not too long ago, and who had promised my nephew that he was over her..yada yada (I have no idea how that subject came up..) but she had been with him for 3 years, and from what my nephew tells me, he treated her pretty shitty.. A week ago the ex took a bottle of sleeping pills, I guess because he missed her so bad. Nice. I really liked this girl too, and my nephew seemed really happy with her. Right now he's pissed, and I think he's afraid to be sad because with him, the sadness will be overwhelming. All he wants to do is beat the shit out of the ex.. a natural male reaction I guess, hopefully he'll rise above that though, and learn something in the process.. like that love can suck, and hurt more than anything. And that girls are going to come and go, but that it's not the end of the world.. even though it feels like it right now..
I haven't told my boys yet, it's not like someone died..but they really liked her and had been promised a trip to Chuck E. Cheese's when she came back from her winter break. That only means that I'm now going to have to take them to that dreadful, money absorbing germ filled establishment.. great. And one last thing, that I couldn't help but think of.. how am I going to ask for the rent money?? Like he's not feeling low enough.. I guess I'll just give it some time, and check back in on that subject in a week or two.. teen love sucks!

Poor Baby..

I spent 5 hours in the Emergency room last night with one of the twins. The one with hydronephrosis (fluid on one of her kidneys, she's had ultrasounds to check on it, and has no problems with it) She woke up from a nap yesterday afternoon with a fever, and no other symptoms. I called a nurse at the hospital to see what I could give her (I couldn't remember what the dose for a baby her age was) The nurse thought that paging the pediatrician on call was a good idea given her history. He thought I should bring her in, just to make sure that she didn't have some sort of infection going on in her kidney. After a needle stick and blood draw, and a very unpleasant catheter insertion, we were told that she most likely had just a viral infection, and sent home. Better be safe than sorry.. I hate that reasoning, but unfortunately I agree with it. It was horrible to see my little baby getting stuck with a needle, and then having 2 different nurses trying to get the catheter in her to do a urine test. I consider myself to be a pretty "weathered" parent, and shots and other necessary unpleasantries don't usually bother me. But she just lay there and sobbed.. and I could do nothing for her.. Ugh. It sucked.
She seems to be doing better today, although her fever keeps reappearing, but it's not as high as it was last night. And her sister hasn't shown any signs of a cold or a fever.. I'm praying it stays that way! One sick baby is enough!

You're going to pay for that after I kill you!

This is what my husband and I overheard our 6 year old telling his little brother.. kind of funny.. like getting "killed" wasn't payback enough!

My youngest son had his speech eval this week. It wasn't what I thought it was going to be, it was a re-screening to see if he's made progress since September. They're going to get in touch with me and follow up with another assessment, but the speech therapist who was doing the test thought he would definitely qualify for additional therapy. Now I have to wait. He loved being at the school, and looking through all the cupboards of toys. They have a great program there for kids with special needs. I mentioned to him about going back sometime without me, and he pretty much freaked out. I think he'll adjust ok eventually if he has to go, but he's definitely got some issues with leaving his mother.. what will I do without him at the house asking me every 30 seconds who my favorite character is in Dora the Explorer.. I'll cope..

I Love Fridays...
